ghost town near berlin

panorama of 15 single pictures, tonemapped with photomatix, some colour adjustments with gimp.

the picture took me some days, actually the girl was not there, it's the first time i manipulated a photograph but i had that conceptual vision of a child entering this desolated place, so (because of a lack of models) i realized it this way. i used a stock image of [link] for the girl.

i understand that =| i can read.
i meant, something happened there? if it was something similar to Chernobyl accident, world would knew. so why it's abandoned? sorry for the question (and for bad english). just curious.

you do not abandon town without a reason.

actually it's an abandoned military area. it was used as barracks for many years, initially by the german army, later by the soviet army. since the cold war has ended nobody cared about this place (there are many other similar places in eastern germany). i called it ghost town due to its dimensions (aprox. 2 km x 1,5 km) and self-sufficiency. being there i saw almost every facility that you find in a city, too. residential houses, dining halls, a kind of supermarket, a sports hall, a theatre, a power plant and so on. furthermore a big part of this area was built on with those "plattenbau" buildings which you can find in a lot of big german citys. being surrounded by those buildings felt like standing in a post-apocalyptic berlin.

Das ist wirklich in der Nähe von Berlin? Das sieht ja nach einem regelrechten Spielplatz für Urbexer aus!! Und schönes Bild! :) Ich mag das Konzept dahinter

ja, das ist eine richtig schön große anlage. hat sehr viel spaß gemacht dort. man hätte da mehrere tage gebraucht um wirklich alles zu sehen, sehr beeindruckend.
